Savannah Film Festival

Oct - Nov 2006 (annual) Hosted by the Savannah College of Art & Design, this annual film festival features a programme of the best independent films and videos from around the world, screened at venues all over town.
The festival directors choose 50 films from more than 600 entries in the categories of feature, short, animation, documentary and student competition. Each year a Lifetime Achievement Award is presented, there are panel discussions and presentations by visiting artists, as well as film-making workshops for the public and local students.
The 2005 programme includes tributes to Sidney Lumet and Jeff Daniels and a special screening of the 1925 classic Phantom of the Opera with live music. Joe Wright's Pride and Prejudice closes the festival on the final night.

Savannah Harbor Boat Parade Of Lights

Nov 2006 (annual)Led by the 600-seater Georgia Queen, more than 60 decorated and illuminated boats parade along Savannah's waterfront in the traditional opener to the Savannah Harbor Holiday Series. A dramatic firework display at the end of the evening sends everyone home happy.

Savannah Irish Festival

Feb 2007 (annual)The Savannah Irish Festival lights up the Civic Centre with live music, dancing, fun and food. A specially-designated children's stage keeps the little ones happy with puppetry and dancing.
Musical performers in 2006 include Harry O'Donoghue, The Cathie Ryan Band, The Dady Brothers, Brendan Nolan, Pat and Rosie Maloney, The Moon River Chorus and a troupe of 27 fiddlers, Na Fidlieri, from Charleston, SC.

Savannah Music Festival

Mar - Apr 2007 (annual)Indoor and outdoor venues across Savannah play host to the 17-day Savannah Music Festival. Numerous one-off performances and world premières are included among the chamber music, ballet and orchestral works, while the "indigenous music from the Deep South" includes bluegrass and mountain music, Louisiana soul and, of course, the blues.
Living Legends of the Blues, on the final Saturday, features performances from 93 year-old piano player Pinetop Perkins, drummer Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, Nappy Brown and Steady Rollin' Bob Margolin. Worth it for the names alone!

SCAD Sidewalk Arts Festival
Forsyth Park
Apr 2007 (annual)The Savannah College of Art and Design hosts an annual festival that aims to brings art into people's lives. It takes place around Forsyth Park in the centre of the city.
There are a number of competitions, including chalk drawing competitions for students, alumni and prospective students and the Fantastic Fishes Art Contest, sponsored by Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary.
The event also includes a student and faculty art exhibition, a SCAD student organisation fair, food, children's and youth areas for young artists as well as live music throughout the day.
